ARTIFACT: This is a circa World War II cap badge as used by sailors aboard U-636. The badge shows two horse's heads, a traditional symbol of Lower Saxony, with the Nazi addition of a swastika beneath. U-Boat 636 was launched on June 25, 1942 and completed fifteen war patrols, sinking the Soviet ship Tbilisi with one of its mines in the process. U-636 was sunk by British frigates off the coast of Ireland on April 21, 1945. There were no survivors.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 1-5/8" in height and 1-7/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Tin filled with zinc or white metal.

ATTACHMENT: Four bendable prongs.

MARKINGS: None.
