Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War I United States Navy dog tag made out of a Portugese coin. The tag originally belonged to Allen C. Johnson, and is dated August 26, 1918 on reverse. The coin reads REI DE PORTUGAL (King of Portugal) on the front: Portugal's monarchy was abolished in 1910. The photos have been lightened a bit to show detail - tag has a nice, deep coppery coloration.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-3/16" in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Copper with heavy brown patina.

ATTACHMENT:

Hole.
