Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a nice little World War I United States Army Company A, 346th Machine Gun Battalion grouping originally belonging to Private Otto Reynolds. The grouping consists of a silver French-made ID bracelet, an expert rifleman badge, a numbered BRRT (Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen) WWI service medal by Whitehead & Hoag and a diary/poetry book. The diary covers a little info about his unit in the Final Phase Ypres-Lys Offensive 14 October - 11 November 1918, it also contains a few family pictures, and a bunch of poems by Cowboy Poet Tom O'Connor who must have been a member of his unit.

Circa World War I.

Book: 4-3/4" x 2-3/4"; service medal: ; 1-7/8" by 1-5/16"; bracelet: chain: 6-1/2" total length; center: 1-3/8" by 15/16".

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Silver bracelet, leather-bound book; paper; bronze; plated brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Bracelet: link chain and locking clasp; service medal: horizontal pin on bar with tongue-style catch; rifleman badge: horizontal pin on bar with tongue-style catch (one suspension link missing); book: 3 ring binding.

MARKINGS:

Service medal: 6833 and W&H (Whitehead & Hoag) Co. Newark NJ/union mark on reverse.

CONDITION:

7 (Overall Very Fine): Varies, but overall in very fine condition. Booklet has some oxidation near rings; rifleman badge has one suspension link missing.
