World War I Shipyard Volunteer lapel badge by Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, New Jersey. The oval badge shows a sailing ship in nice relief detail showing the letters: "U.S." in the center and surrounding it reads: "SHIPYARD VOLUNTEER". The reverse stud reads: "WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J." and to the side a shield shaped maker's mark.
VINTAGE:Circa WWI.
SIZE:Approximately 1-1/4" x 7/8".
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Copper.
ATTACHMENT:Lapel stud.
