ARTIFACT: Beautiful, early WWI Imperial German Iron Cross 1st Class Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse (EKI) by AWS (A. Werner & Sons, Berlin) in sterling silver. The Iron Cross was awarded for bravery in battle as well as other military contributions in a battlefield environment. Early awards were given without regard to rank, however the recipient required the honor of the 2nd class prior to being awarded 1st class, the EKI was worn on the left breast.

VINTAGE: Circa Early WWI

SIZE: 1 ??" x 1 ??"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Sterling silver and paint.

ATTACHMENT: Single screw post with two piece disc backing, a larger disc secured by a smaller screwback.

MARKINGS: 925 and AWS hallmark.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a collection of German Militaria artifacts which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JMBG-15-14 LGEJX14 RET4/15

CONDITION: 9- (Excellent+): Iron Cross shows minor wear, all painted details remain intact, overall handsome tarnish.
