This is an Imperial German Army black wound badge in painted steel, which is equivalent to a Purple Heart. The black version was awarded to enlistees who were injured up to twice or who suffered frostbite while serving. The badge shows a helmet with two crossed swords behind it. It is in painted brass and is of World War I period manufacture. Its original 7 Pfennig (cent) price is written on reverse.
Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Vertical T-style pin with C catch.
This is from a WWI Imperial Germany wound badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. PCJV20 LGEX03/13/21
8 (Excellent): The badge shows minor wear.
