ARTIFACT:  This is an Imperial German Army black wound badge in painted steel, which is equivalent to a Purple Heart. The black version was awarded to enlistees who were injured up to twice or who suffered frostbite while serving. The badge shows a helmet with two crossed swords behind it. It is in painted brass and is of World War I period manufacture. Its original 7 Pfennig (cent) price is written on reverse.

VINTAGE: Circa WWI.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Painted steel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T-style pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: N/A.
