Description
This is a French Croix de Guerre (Cross of War) medal with star in the 1914-1918 style. The medal was given in France and Belgium for heroic acts in the course of service. The medal is a cross with crossed swords and a woman's head at center and reads REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE on front and 1914 1918 on reverse. The ribbon shows a repeating thick green and narrow red stripe to denote World War I service and bears one bronze star.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:3-5/8" height and 1-1/2" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Bronze medallion and star with silk ribbon.
ATTACHMENT:Loop attachment from medallion to ribbon (missing rod which would have attached piece to garment).
