ARTIFACT:

Wonderful circa 1937 "The Skating Club of Lake Placid" member lapel pin. Lake Placid has been an area popular for skating since the early 1920's, the first formal group was called the 'Sno Birds' who organized their own competitions and skating events while managing the United States and Canadian Skating Associations. Skating became very popular in the 1930's and the Sno Birds held their first indoor event inside the Olympic arena in 193Shortly after, in 1937, "The Adirondack Club" changed its name to the "Skating Club of Lake Placid". The pin is shaped like a cloud and reads: "THE SKATING CLUB OF LAKE PLACID, INC." with an ice skate blade charm.

Gold filled sterling.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal pin with drop in swivel locking catch.
