ARTIFACT:
Wonderful 1870's-80's Old West Deputy Sherriff six point star badge by S. G. Adams Stamp & Stationary, in St. Louis. The ball-tipped badge reads: "DEPUTY SHERIFF" in hand stamped lettering with black detail. It is getting extremely hard to find western badges of the 1870's or 1880's these days. The original pin on this example looks like it may have been re-soldered during the period of wear and the badge has a fabulous "been there" look.
These badges came out of an old collection put together by a collector from Kansas, now deceased. As the bulk of his collection was Kansas and Colorado, it can be safely assumed that these badges were indeed worn in the Old West of their particular vintage, although I do not know exactly where any were used or collected. CONDITION:
6 (Fine+): The badge shows heavy surface wear, much of the plating has worn from the front, though the reverse retains a good amount, possible period replacement to the pin, great been there look.
