Description
This is a circa 1930s New York Central Mail Service celluloid badge. The New York Central Mail Service ran on an early line which was important in connecting the East Coast with interior of the United States. The badge is an orange rectangle reading MAIL NEW YORK CENTRAL R.R. There is a window opening revealing a paper with the number 8981handwritten on it.
VINTAGE:Circa 1930s.
SIZE:1-1/2" in height x 2-1/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Celluloid wrapped around steel or tin backing with brass pin.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal one-piece safety type pin.
MARKINGS:W&H CO. NEWARK NJ PAT. OCT 1 1929 on reverse.

CONDITION:8- (Very Fine—Excellent): Badge is slightly scuffed when held up to the light but has no major wear. Reverse is lightly tarnished.
