ARTIFACT:
This is a very rare World War II United States War Training School Southern Airways flight school instructor jacket patch. Southern was one of the two largest Civilian Pilot Training/War Training Service (CPT/WTS) schools, the other being Piedmont Aviation. Southern had several schools in the Carolinas and Alabama. Between the two companies over 60,000 war pilots were trained, including airmen from other countries: Southern instructed several Royal Air Force pilots. The patch's design, although minimalistic, is a head-on view of an eagle perched astride a T-6 training aircraft. The patch is large and nicely chain-stitched upon felt.
