ARTIFACT: This is a very rare World War II United States War Training School Southern Airways flight school instructor jacket patch. Southern was one of the two largest Civilian Pilot Training/War Training Service (CPT/WTS) schools, the other being Piedmont Aviation. Southern had several schools in the Carolinas and Alabama. Between the two companies over 60,000 war pilots were trained, including airmen from other countries: Southern instructed several Royal Air Force pilots. The patch's design, although minimalistic, is a head-on view of an eagle perched astride a T-6 training aircraft. The patch is large and nicely chain-stitched upon felt.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: About 5-9/16" in height and 5-1/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Multi-piece felt patch embroidered in black cotton/silk threads, mesh backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Civilian Pilot Training/War Training Service collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX06 LDGEX9/13

CONDITION: 6 (Fine+): The patch has heavy wear and some scattered moth bites.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
