ARTIFACT: Very rare, circa 1897-98 British 21st Lancers Tschapka Helmet Plate for an enlisted man. In 1897 they were designated as lancers, becoming the 21st Lancers, and this helmet plate would have been worn in 1898 when they served in the Mahdist War in the Sudan where they earned their battle honors.

VINTAGE: Circa 1897-98

SIZE: 8 6/8" x 4 6/8"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt brass.

ATTACHMENT: Suspension screw post with wing-nut disc backings.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a collection of Commonwealth items which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MAHJX14 LHIEX9/14 SFJJX2/16

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The helmet plate is in overall good condition with some small spots of wear, a remarkable amount of the gilding remains.
