This is a circa 1942 distinctive insignia for the United States Army Air Forces 33rd Fighter Group. The DI shows a flaming sword at its center and reads FIRE FROM THE CLOUDS beneath. The DI is by Meyer. It was listed in Jay Massaro's book on USAAF DIs as #33B2, and he termed it "e;uncommon"e;.
VINTAGE:Circa 1942.
SIZE:Approximately 1-1/4" in height and 1-3/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gilt brass, enamel.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical pin with come-under locking swivel catch.
MARKINGS:N.S. MEYER INC. NEW YORK and raised shield mark.
