ARTIFACT: This is a stunning and huge 1870s Scottish clan badge for Clan MacNeil of Colonsay. A branch of the main MacNeil (or MacNeill) clan of Argyl, the MacNeils of Colonsay use their own independent motto upon their badge: "Vincere Aut Mori" ("Conquer or Die"). It has an armoured arm with dagger (or dirk) at the center of the encircling garter. The badge is in unmarked coin silver and has a hollow, multi-piece construction.

VINTAGE: Circa 1870s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-5/16" in height and 2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Unmarked coin silver; hollow, multi-piece construction.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal T-style pin with C catch, loop for hanging.

MARKINGS: Unmarked.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a 19th century Scottish clan badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX14 LFJJX6/14 SFJJX6/14

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge has some light wear/tarnish.
