ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1900 coin silver clan badge for Clan Gunn. The badge shows a fist holding an upthrust dirk and reads Aut Pax Aut Bellum (Either peace or war) upon the encircling garter. Clan Gunn is an ancient clan associated with the Orkney Islands. It is thought by some that Sir James Gunn, a Knight Templar, visited the New World circa 1398 with Lord Henry Sinclair. It is speculated that Gunn may be the "Westford Knight", buried at Westford, Massachusetts, memorialized in stone. The badge is unmarked but tests for coin silver.

VINTAGE: Circa 1900.

SIZE: Approximately 2" in height and 1-3/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Coin silver.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal British kick (Y-style) pin with tongue-style catch.

MARKINGS: MADE IN BRITAIN.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Scottish clan badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. SHOP MAEL13 LABJX4/14 SeADEX1/16

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge has some light wear/tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
