Description
This is a stunning circa 1920s-1930s Bolivian Order of the Condor of the Andes Grand Officer neck badge. The blue-enameled Maltese cross has ball-tipped finials and Kantuta (cantua buxifolia) flowers between its arms. It hangs from an elaborate suspension in the form of a condor upon a green neck ribbon. Its face has a circular central medallion with the mountain of Potosi and a radiant gold sun in a blue sky encircled by a white enamel ring inscribed 'LA UNION ES LA FUERZA MCMXXV' (Strength through Unity 1925); the reverse has a central red enamel medallion bearing the gilt letters 'RB' (Republica Boliviano). The order was instituted on April 18, 1925 for civil and military merit and is Bolivia's highest award.
VINTAGE:Circa 1920s-1930s.
SIZE:Medallion: approximately 1-11/16" in height and 1-11/16" in width; ribbon: 31" in total length (including ties).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gilt silver, enamel, silk.
ATTACHMENT:Suspension rings, clip, ribbon with ties.
