The Spanish-American War service medal has a bar that reads 1898 2ND CLASS MARKSMAN and an oval medallion that shows a soldier and reads N.G.P. The reverse of the medallion reads TO THE MARKSMEN OF NATIONAL GUARD OF PENNSYLVANIA WHO ENTERED UNITED STATES SERVICE IN WAR WITH SPAIN 1898. The marksman medal has three bars for the years 1895-1897 and a medallion that reads MARKSMAN'S BADGE encircling a keystone and the flag of the State of Pennsylvania. The reverse of the badge reads NGP. There is another identical marksman badge without any bars. The hat badge is a set of two crossed rifles with the number 6. The veterans lapel stud is cross-shaped and reads UNITED SPANISH WAR VETERANS 1898-1902.
