ARTIFACT:

This is a Spanish-American War era celluloid pin showing the Cuban flag. The pin was given out as part of tobacco promotion, and was made by Whitehead & Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1898 (Spanish American War era).

SIZE:

Approximately 5/8" in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Celluloid-wrapped tin, partial paper backing, brass pin.

ATTACHMENT:

Straight pin.

MARKINGS:

WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J> on what is left of the paper tag.

CONDITION:

6 (Fine+): The badge has some light wear and yellowing and some foxing along the edge; paper backing is mostly missing and there is rusting on the reverse only.
