ARTIFACT: This is Spanish-American War celluloid pin for Admiral George Dewey, whose fleet defeated Spain at Manila Bay on May 1, 1898. The pin reads ADMIRAL DEWEY and shows a bust of the war hero.

VINTAGE: Circa Spanish-American War.

SIZE: 1-1/4" diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid with tin and newsprint backing.

ATTACHMENT: Straight pin.

MARKINGS: Newsprint backing reading BUTTONS MADE BY WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO., NEWARK, N.J., U.S.A. PAT. APRIL 14, 1896. JULY 21, 1896.
