Description
This is a scarce World War II United States Army Air Forces 9th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron jacket patch made in the China-Burma-India theatre (India, specifically). This USAAF squadron was in the India-Burma sector and attached to the 5306th Photo and Reconnaissance Group (provisional), 8th Photo Group/8th Reconnaissance Group, and 10th and 14th Air Force. The 9th flew P-38 aircraft and operated within the CBI theatre from July 24, 1942 through the end of the war. The patch is a camera-toting cat riding a thunderbolt like a bronco with his flight helmet trailing out behind him. The clouds he is zooming by look almost like hibiscus blossoms. Listed for sale separately is a 9th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron roster from 1944 that came to us along with this patch (please see link below for more information).
