ARTIFACT: This is a World War II A-2 jacket originally belonging to Harold Henderson of the United States Army Air Forces 77th Liaison Squadron, along with other items. The jacket has three multi-piece leather patches made in the China-Burma-India theatre, including a large Disney-designed patch featuring Dumbo, and a leather name strip partially in Chinese. Also in this lot are six medals, an Army Air Corps Flight School DI, a blood chit, four photographs of Henderson and some of his aircraft, and three loose patches (the crest-shaped patch is also theatre-made). The six medals are the following: an Air Medal, an Air Corps Distinguished Flying Cross medal, a medal for good conduct, a World War II service medal, a medal for the Asiatic Pacific Campaign, and a medal for the American Campaign.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Jacket (no size tag): 17" shoulder to shoulder, 17" armpit to armpit, 24-1/2" shoulder seam to cuff; patches: various sizes (3" x 2-1/8* largest one); medals: various sizes (3-1/2" by 1-5/8" largest one); DI: 1-1/8" by 7/8"; chit: 10" by 7-15/16"; photographs: various sizes (4" x 5-1/4" largest one).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Jacket leather with nylon lining, elasticized cotton blend cuffs and waistband; patches (on jacket): multi-piece leather; patches (loose); one fully embroidered in cotton/silk threads, one wool embroidered in cotton/silk threads with mesh backing, one silk embroidered with cotton/silk threads with woven cotton backing; medals: bronze, silk, brass; DI: plated brass with enamel: chit: silk/cotton; photographs: photo paper.

ATTACHMENT: Jacket: zipper, two pocket snaps, two collar snaps; medals: horizontal pins on bars with swivel locking catches, ribbons, suspension rings; DI: vertical pin with swivel locking catch.

MARKINGS: Jacket: CONMAR USA (on zipper); medals; photographs: 36, 9984, HAROLD HENDERSON 47B 1944 with developer mark, THE PARAMOUNT STUDIOS, SIOUX FALLS, S.D.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-LL-VAGEJX10 LBCJJX7/11 SBCJJX7/12

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The jacket has some areas of moderate wear, in particular on one of the cuffs and on the neck and shoulders, and there are a few rips and some discoloration in the lining. Most of the items are in very good or excellent condition, with only light wear and tarnish. The blood chit has seen some heavy wear/use.
