Description
This is a rare King's Medal for Service in the Cause of Freedom awarded to women, and it comes in its original case from the Royal Mint. The medal was first struck in 1945 and given by the British Empire to foreign citizens who had assisted the British cause for freedom during wartime. The front of the medal shows a bust of George VI and hangs from a white, blue and red ribbon, and the reverse shows a knight receiving succor form a woman.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Medal is approximately 2-7/8" in height and 2-3/4" in width; box is 15/16" high and 4-1/2" square.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Silver medal on silk ribbon; velvet- and silk-lined case.
ATTACHMENT:Hinged case; horizontal T-style pin with "C" catch on medal bar; suspension ring.
