Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War II American Women's Voluntary Services lapel pin. Formed in 1940 by Alice Throckmorton McLean as a group to promote preparedness for eventual war, the AWVS had over 18,000 members even before the United States joined the fray.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 11/16" in height and 7/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Painted aluminum.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal safety-style pin.
