Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War II American Women's Voluntary Services collar insignia. Formed in 1940 by Alice Throckmorton McLean as a group to promote preparedness for eventual war, the AWVS had over 18,000 members even before the United States joined the fray.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-1/8" in height x 3/4" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Plated brass with painted areas.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical safety pin.

MARKINGS:

Some Fountain pen writing on reverse.
