Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a scarce CASED, pre WWII period, example of the Kingdom of Nepal Order Gorkha Dakshina Bahu, Second Class Star, or Prasidha-Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu.

The Order is locally made in Nepal, in unmarked silver, with a light gold wash on the central Sun & Gurkha Knives medallion. The silk ribbon has some fading, but is in the scarce, original, Saffron color, later ribbons being a deeper reddish color. The case is made of wood, wrapped in an early vinylized cloth, with a silk/rayon and velvet lining. 

The Most Puissant Order of the Gurkha Right Hand (Gorkha-Dakshina Bahu): founded by King Prithvi in 1896, and revived and reformed by King Tribhuvan on 7th September 193The order consists of the Sovereign (Parama-Suprasidha-Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu), Grand Master (Ati-Suprasidha-Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu), and ordinary members in five classes (Suprasidha-Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu, Prasidha-Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu, Suprabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu, Prabala-Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu and Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu). Attached to the order is a medal (Gorkha-Dakshina-Bahu-Padak) instituted by King Tribhuvan in 1936.

Approximately :Medal 2-1/4" in height x 2-1/4" in width. Attached Ring: 3/4" in length Ribbon: 20-1/4" in length x 1-1/2" in width. Box: 4-5/8' in length x 3-3/4" in width x 1-1/4" in height.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Unmarked silver, with a light gold wash on the central Sun & Gurkha Knives medallion. Silk, wooden box & paper.

CONDITION:

7+ (Very Fine - Excellent): The badge shows minor wear, and tarnish on front, ribbon shows minor to moderate wear, and color is faded, box shows still functional, only white silk material is very delicate condition.
