Description
This is a scarce hardcover copy of the United States Army Air Forces book entitled: "Pacific Sweep: A Pictorial History of the 5th Air Force Fighter Command". Fifth Fighter Command members were also known as VFCs. Page seven relates that at the time, the 5th Air Command record of 2,547 downed enemy planes in three years stood "unmatched". The book has many candid and action photos, as well as shots of the 5th 's travels in the Philippines and other locales. The book nods to each group contributing to the VFC effort, including the 8th 35th, 49th, 58th and 348th Groups, the 3rd Air Commados, the 85th and 86th Fighter Wings, and the 201st Mexican Squadron. This copy has its original dust jacket, which has several rips but has done its job protecting the book. The book was published in Australia by the F.H. Johnston Publishing Company Pty. Ltd.
