ARTIFACT:
Scarce 1920's ??? 1930's United States Volunteer Life Saving Corps (USVLSC) Medal. The bronze Life Saving medallion depicts two individuals swimming in the water and surrounding them an enameled lifesaving buoy reads: "U. S. VOL-LIFE SAVING CORPS" and the outer edges are a wreath of laurel leaves joined together at the bottom with a bow. The medal is suspended from five chain links on either side, the pinback has not been engraved. The USVLSC existed in fifteen states where there were no federally-run life-saving stations and acted to supplement the U. S. Life Saving Service.
