ARTIFACT:
This is a circa 1930's Member Lapel pin for the Ninety-Nines, or 99s, a women's aviation group founded in 1929. The club's birth happened at Curtiss Field on Long Island, New York, and it was officially named two years later for the ninety-nine charter members under President Amelia Earhart. The pin is two very angular nines with a fixed diagonal propeller across them.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1930's.
SIZE:
Approximately 1/2" in width and 1/2" in height. Propeller: 5/8” in length
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:
Gold-plated nickel.
ATTACHMENT:
Vertical pin with drop-in locking catch.
