ARTIFACT: Rare circa 1900 Baker’s Chocolate Co. single bookend (left facing) in brass plated cast iron. The Walter Baker Chocolate Company is located in Dorchester, Massachusetts and was founded in 1862, today it remains the oldest producer of chocolate in the United States. The bookend figurine was inspired from the painting known as 'La Belle Chocolatiere' by Swiss artist Jean-Etienne Liotard. The company purchased the rights to use the art as a symbol for their chocolate products. The bookends are in a shape that depicts the chocolate serving maid carrying a tray with a mug and glass.
