Description

ARTIFACT:

Nice early 1970's United States Navy Commander Task Force 77 jacket patch. The center of the Japanese-made patch reads: "CTF 77" in red detail against a background of a white globe with green continents encircle by a blue and white wreath topped with two five pointed stars. The outer edge of the patch reads: "COMMANDER TASK FORCE SEVENTY Ð SEVEN U. S. SEVENTH FLEET". The 77th participated in the Rolling Thunder bombing and Blue Tree tactical reconnaissance operations in North Vietnam, as well as the Barrel Roll, Steel Tiger, and Tiger Hound bombing and Yankee Team reconnaissance efforts in Laos. The Task Force 77 carrier air wing controlled nearly 100 aircraft while engaged, usually grouped into different (fighter, bomb, recon, etc.) squadrons.
