ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1880s hat button for the United States Lighthouse Service (USLHS), a precursor of the United States Coast Guard. The Lighthouse Service merged with the US Coast Guard in 1939. The button is in excellent condition and was made by Horstmann of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It shows a stone lighthouse upon a wave-swept rock at its center.

VINTAGE: Circa 1880s.

SIZE: Approximately 1/2" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass.

ATTACHMENT: Button loop.

MARKINGS: HORSTMANN PHILADELPHIA.

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The button shows only very light wear.
