ARTIFACT:
This is a World War II Nazi Silver Close Combat Clasp (or Nahkampfspange erste Stufe) in zinc. The requirement for a soldier to receive this worthy decoration was to have participated in close combat with the enemy for one day shy of three weeks, or what must have seemed like three years. The clasp shows a cut-out eagle and swastika perched upon a crossed bayonet and grenade at its center, with bunches of oak leaf foliage at the sides. This badge has retained about a third of its silver finish, and is missing its back plate. The pin is steel and in the "Coke bottle" design.

Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 1" in height and 3-13/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Zinc, steel pin.

Horizontal "Coke bottle" pin in steel with C catch upon a base plate.

CONDITION:
6+ (Fine-Very Fine): The clasp has areas of light to medium wear and tarnish; 30% of its finish remains. B back plate is missing: because of this, condition rating is more like a 5 (Very Good—Fine).
