ARTIFACT: This is a large and heavy named and dated 1922 P. B. (Peter Bent) Brigham Hospital Nursing School memorial medal for Professor John P. Reynolds. Reynolds was a professor and trustee of the fledgling hospital. P. B. Brigham Hospital started in Boston in 1913 as a Harvard Medical School affiliate. The world's first successful surgery for replacement of a heart valve on a twelve year-old girl happened there in 1923. In 1980, P.B. Brigham merged with two other hospitals to make Brigham and Women's Hospital. The 14 karat gold (10 pennyweight) oval medallion hangs form an unadorned bar and is named to Mabel F. Booth on reverse.

VINTAGE: Circa 1922.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/4"in height and 1-1/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: 14 karat gold (10 pennyweight).

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch, suspension ring.

MARKINGS: AWARDED TO MABEL F. BOOTH 1922.
