ARTIFACT: This is a circa late 19th century shaving mug belonging to a member of the Order of United American Mechanics (OUAM). The OUAM was an early Anti-Catholic American Nativist organization founded in Philadelphia. The mug belonged to a member named John Alloway, whose name is in gilt above the organization's patriotic and Masonic-esque insignia. Ironically the mug was made abroad in Germany.

VINTAGE: Circa late 19th century.

SIZE: Approximately 3-5/8" in height and 3-9/16" in diameter (at rim).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Ceramic, painted and gilt details.

ATTACHMENT: Handle.

MARKINGS: J.S GERMANY mark with F stamp.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The mug has no cracks or chips and some areas of discoloration on the inside only.
