Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a Japanese-made patch for the United States Navy ammunition ship USS Kilauea (AE-26), named for the Hawaiian volcano. Kilauea was launched August 9, 1967 from Quincy, Massachusetts. She was recommissioned as the USNS Kilauea in 1980, and struck from the Naval Register in 1998.

VINTAGE:

Circa late 1960s.

SIZE:

Approximately 3-1/8" in width and 3-3/8" in height.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Fully embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads, muslin backing.

CONDITION:

7 (Very Fine): The patch shows some moderate wear, mostly puckering along the edge.
