ARTIFACT:

This is a Yoken's Restaurant side plate from just after their opening in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 194Yoken's was a locally famous restaurant and gift shop with an animated sign showing a whale who spouted water and slapped his tail to draw people inside. The plate is in red and white patterned china and reads "THAR SHE BLOWS!" and shows an old time whaling scene.

VINTAGE:

Circa late 1940s.

SIZE:

Approximately 6-13/16" in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Ceramic.
