ARTIFACT: A very rare and historically compelling memorial trophy honoring Fred Hartman. Built into the prop tip of the D-H4 that Harmon crashed in, includes the original clock and manufacturer's build plate from the plane. Reverse features an article on Fred as a dog sled contestant in 1917. The dogsled race photo attached to the back of the prop is not a picture of Hartman: in the race Hartman's carriole [toboggan-sled] was marked with the number 2, and the sled in the newspaper photo looks like it is marked with either an 8 or a 9. Racer #8 was an Icelander from Gimli, Manitoba, by the name of T.G. Tordarson, and racer #9 was Icelander Gunnar Tomasson from Hecla, Manitoba. Also included is a provenance card from the previous owner stating Fred crashed in France in 1918.
