ARTIFACT:
Great 1920's Dunellen, New Jersey Police Captain Badge featuring the State Seal of New Jersey in the center; two female figures Liberty on the left and Roman goddess Ceres on the right, three plows on a center shield to symbolize agriculture, and a horse head above for speed and strength. The badge is topped with a perched eagle carrying a banner reading: CAPTAIN" and below, letters reading: "DUNELLEN POLICE". Badge was manufactured as gold plated brass and nickel (seal), but repeated polishing gave it the lovely patina and light wear it displays now. Badge most likely dates to the mid-late 1920's (the Roaring 20's, especially in NJ!) when the newly formed Dunellen Police Department promoted its first Captains. A rare old piece of New Jersey Law Enforcement History.
