ARTIFACT:
Great 1890's "posse" size "Stock" Deputy Sheriff badge. The circle star badge is a nice diminutive, but beautiful badge you might have expected to see on the lapel of a Deputy's Duster as he rode out in a posse in search of an outlaw.
Great convex construction, with hand stamped letters (scribed guide line still visible at bottom). Lovely light wear to the front, and a nice patina to the back of the badge.
These badges came out of an old collection put together by a collector from Kansas, now deceased. As the bulk of his collection was Kansas and Colorado, it can be safely assumed that these badges were indeed worn in the Old West of their particular vintage, although I do not know exactly where any were used or collected.
