Description
Fabulous and RARE circa 1944 French-made United States Army Air Forces 316th Fighter Squadron, 324th Fighter Group Jacket Patch. During 1944, the squadron began flying Republic P-47D Thunderbolts while completing reconnaissance missions and later an invasion of southern France. The unit also provided air cover for ground troops on D-Day, participated in the German counter attack in Ardennes, and again provided air support for ground troops penetrating the Siegfried Line. The patch depicts a shapely female devil holding a pitchfork and standing in fire and reads: "HELLS BELLES", embroidered on gold satin with read, orange, and black silk thread and a black denim-like backing. This example has stunning colors and was removed from clothing, but shows very little signs of wear.
