This is an Extremely Rare World War I United State Army Western Department Intelligence Service Badge, number C-702.
The badge is not maker marked, but the unique type of pin "saddle" on back points to Irvine & Jachens of San Francisco as the maker.
World War I.
SIZE:Approximately 2-1/8" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Nickel plated nickel with painted letter.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical safety-style pin with saddle.
