ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare, large and beautiful circa 1870s or 1880s Brooklyn, New York Fire Department (B.F.D.) "cloverleaf" or "rounded cross" badge. The borough of Brooklyn started its own fire department in 1869 with nine engines and eventually merged with the FDNY in 1898. The badge is numbered 469 and has a great classical figure in relief at the center holding a fire axe.

VINTAGE: Circa 1870s-1880s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/2" in height and 2-7/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass, copper-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an old New York fire and rescue badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. Ebay MAJJX14 LHGEX5/14 SHGEX8/14

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The badge has some small areas of light to medium tarnish and wear.
