Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an extremely rare, large and beautiful circa 1870s or 1880s Brooklyn, New York Fire Department (B.F.D.) "cloverleaf" or "rounded cross" badge. The borough of Brooklyn started its own fire department in 1869 with nine engines and eventually merged with the FDNY in 189The badge is numbered 469 and has a great classical figure in relief at the center holding a fire axe.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1870s-1880s.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-1/2" in height and 2-7/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Plated brass, copper-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical kick pin with C catch.
