Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a Maine Traffic Officer badge from before Maine's State Police force was formed. The badge reads TRAFFIC OFFICER 184 and shows the State of Maine seal at center. As with many things in early Maine Law Enforcement History, the power was turned over to the County Sheriff's. These badges were distributed to Maine's County Sheriffs to be given out to designated State Traffic Officers within their respective counties.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1910s-1920.

SIZE:

2-1/8" height and 1-13/16" width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Nickel-plated brass with painted letters.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical safety-style pin.
