ARTIFACT:
Early Canadian Veteran's Organization numbered lapel badge. British Empire Service League Canadian Legion. In November 1925, the Canadian Legion was founded in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Services League. The Legion grew steadily through the 1930s and then expanded rapidly following World War II. The lapel pin shows a maple leaf at the center of red and blue enameled disc, surrounding the disc it reads: "BRITISH EMPIRE SERVICE LEAGUE ??? CANADIAN LEGION" and is topped with a crown. The reverse has raised lettering that reads: "1927 R.D. ??? W. SCULLY ??? MONTREAL ??? 40820". The reverse is shown with the disc backing removed to allow for easy viewing of markings.
