ARTIFACT: This is an early 1970s USS Nautilus SS-571 beer mug that originally belonged to the ship's medic HM1 (Hospital Corpsman 1st Class) Eugene "Gene" F. "Doc" Bonner, a longtime resident of both Maine and New Hampshire. Not only was the Nautilus was the first nuclear-powered submarine to become operational, but was also the first sub to make a totally underwater pass across the North Pole. The mug is in ivory ceramic and has a long, lean shape with a decorative side handle and is graced on its front with the Nautilus logo on full color.

VINTAGE: Circa early 1970s.

SIZE: Approximately 7-3/4" in height and in 5" width (including handle) and 4-9/16" in diameter (at base).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: China.

ATTACHMENT: Side handle.

MARKINGS: MIL-CERAM CO. CARLISLE, MASS. 01741 and maker's mark.

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The mug is in fantastic shape with no chips, cracks or stains and only a few very light abrasions from normal use.
