Description
This is an early 1950s hand-painted aluminum plaque for the United States Navy's USS Piper (SS-409). The Piper was launched June 26, 1944 at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (Kittery, Maine) and went on three World War II patrols. Piper was deployed for the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, and was decommissioned June 16, 196The red, yellow and blue plaque shows a submarine turned piper plunging out of the water with a missile.
VINTAGE:Circa early 1950s.
SIZE:Approximately 6-1/4" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Hand-painted aluminum.
