ARTIFACT: This is a late 1950s hand-painted plaque for the USS Sailfish SSR-572 (Submarine Radar Picket 572). The ship was built at Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard in Kittery, Maine in 1953 and was reclassified as an attack submarine in 1961. The plaque is in aluminum and shows a sailfish rearing out of the water against a light blue background.

VINTAGE: Circa late 1950s.

SIZE: Approximately 6-7/8" in diameter and 1/4" in depth (sailfish in relief juts out slightly farther).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Hand-painted aluminum.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The plaque has some small spots of wear where paint has come off, mostly along the edge.
