Description
This is a circa 1900 pin for the American Humane Education Society (AHES). This lithographed celluloid pin was handed out with the advent of the Society's "Be Kind to Animals" campaign. The pin reads BAND OF MERCY, and shows birds, a dog, a cat and a horse at its center. The Society's pledge is printed on the paper backing: I WILL TRY TO BE KIND TO ALL LIVING CREATURES, AND TRY TO PROTECT THEM FROM CRUEL USAGE.
VINTAGE:Circa early 1900s.
SIZE:Approximately 7/8" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Lithographed celluloid-wrapped tin, paper backing.
ATTACHMENT:Straight pin.
