ARTIFACT: Exquisite Civil War Period small "Bowie" or Fighting knife etched: "THE AMERICAN'S PRIDE EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL LAWS, AND JUSTICE" on the blade (hard to photograph) and Ricasso marked only: "US" with a five point star located between the letters (see photo). This example is most likely the work of Fred James Sheffield. Lovely nickel guard and horn handle.

VINTAGE: Circa Civil War Period

SIZE: Approximately 9" in length; Handle: 3-7/8" x 1/2" at bottom/ 1/4" at top; Blade: 5-1/8" x 3/4"; Guard: 2" x 2/8"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Etched steel, horn, nickel

CONDITION: 6 (Fine+): The knife shows moderate to heavy wear, blade partially bright, about 60%, but many light scratches from sharpening, age split in the handle, the nickel guard is remarkable, overall fine condition.
