Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa World War I United States Marine Corps 2nd Division grouping including an honorable service medal named to Ralph W. Outland. The grouping also includes two enameled insignia and an enameled silver ring showing the Indian head symbol, along with two brass insignia. The 2nd Division was part of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), and the reverse of the medal lists the sites in France where the 2nd served: Toulon-Troyon, Chateau-Thierry, Soissons, Marbache, St. Mihiel Blanc-Mont and Meuse-Argonne.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

Medal: approximately 3" in height and 1-7/16" in width; ring: approximate size 8; insignia are of various sizes.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Medal: gilt brass, enamel, silk ribbon; ring: .800 silver: insignia: brass, brass on wool felt, gilt, plated brass with enamel.

ATTACHMENT:

Medal: horizontal pin on bar, ribbon, suspension ring; other various attachments.

MARKINGS:

RALPH W. OUTLAND on reverse of medal; .800 on ring.

CONDITION:

8- (Very Fine-Excellent): Overall the grouping is in very fine to excellent condition. Most items are in excellent condition; the non-enameled insignia have some small spots of oxidation and wear.
